What Do United Methodist's Believe?

  • We are Christians and believe Jesus Christ is both Savior and Lord
  • We understand the Bible is the source of God's revealing who God is
  • We look to the early faith statements of the Church (creeds) to identify core Christian beliefs
  • We are protestant, part of the early church that broke with the Roman Catholic Church in the 1500's
  • We believe all baptized Christians are responsible to live as followers of Jesus

Beliefs distinctive to the United Methodist Church include:

God's grace is complex.  We believe:

  1. That before we knew there was a God, God was drawing us to God
  2. God's grace is personally experienced in Jesus and once we know the news to be true we are changed
  3. Once we decide to follow Jesus God continues to help us grow our faith in deeper, richer ways
  • We believe having faith alone is not enough.  Believers must do good works that reflect their faith in Jesus
  • We insist that followers of Jesus must be involved in serving and caring for others
  • We believe that worshiping together and learning together are essential to growing our faith
